I have not showered for days,
and
high school girls been calling me all week;
not real high school girls, but minds that never left
the playfield, the giggle-shits, and the repetitive nonsense
I never asked for.
And this may be the rest of my life.
This maybe the end for me, no-
body will like me but these clowns that find me
half-funny, partly attractive,
but don’t get my jokes,
ever.

Lucas Celler is a digital cinema major at DePaul University, with a minor in Creative Writing. He lives in a small suburb of Chicago and writes out of his mother’s house, still. “I have not showered for days” was written shortly after Lucas broke his arm and had a brief, but erudite experience writing painfully with one hand. Lucas finds that poetry is his therapeutic outlet, this poem being no exception. He currently misses the attention he once got from those “high school girls” and dreads his current sexual inertia. You can these and other self-degrading remarks on his fan-based blog at http://zukes.tumblr.com/.
